Everyone calls microbiome testing a wellness trend. This round says otherwise.
When most people hear “gut health startup,” they picture wellness influencers and kombucha. Tiny Health is building something fundamentally different.
🔬 Tiny Health just closed a $33 million oversubscribed Series B led by B Capital, bringing its total funding to $46 million. Existing investors Spero Ventures, The Venture City, and Overwater Ventures all returned. New backers include Black Opal Ventures, Denver Ventures, Pave Health Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Gaingels, and Pari Passu Ventures. According to HIT Consultant, the round was announced October 1, 2026.
This is not a supplement brand with a test kit bolted on.
Here is what makes the technology actually credible:
🔹 Shotgun metagenomic sequencing across more than 120,000 reference genomes, down to strain level, including functional metabolic pathways and immune markers.
🔹 The only direct-to-consumer gut microbiome platform with an interventional randomized controlled trial published in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, showing targeted biomarker-guided interventions reduced infants’ odds of developing eczema by 83%.
🔹 An active second RCT, with clinical investigations expanding into IBD, perimenopause, oncologic drug response, and GLP-1 metabolic interactions.
🔹 TinyAI, an analytical engine trained on nearly 200,000 longitudinal gut and vaginal microbiome profiles.
The enterprise story is what really caught my attention.
💡 Their B2B platform, Powered by Tiny, grew 4x over the past year. Adult testing volume now surpasses pediatric volume. The platform is integrated into the clinical workflows of more than 6,000 healthcare practitioners, including Mayo Clinic’s Executive Health and Longevity Programs and Atria Institute.
That is not a wellness company. That is a precision diagnostics company that started in a consumer wrapper and is now landing in serious clinical settings.
Fifteen million of the raise is earmarked for a $5 million Microbiome Research Program to fund academic and clinical researchers investigating microbial intervention strategies.
As a healthcare founder, here is my read on what this signals.
B Capital does not lead rounds in the gut health space because of vibes. They led because Tiny Health has something rare in digital health right now: peer-reviewed interventional evidence. Four published scientific papers. A second RCT in progress. That is the kind of clinical moat that separates fundable science from fundable marketing.
The real question this round raises is not whether microbiome testing has a future. It is whether the rest of digital health is paying attention to what clinical validation actually looks like.

I help patients get the care they need earlier, preventing late-stage cancer.
That’s been the throughline across three companies and almost 20 years in healthcare. At ReferralMD, we fixed broken referral networks so patients didn’t fall through the cracks. At Oatmeal Health, it’s lung cancer: building the diagnostic and screening infrastructure so the 85% of cases caught too late get caught early instead.
Today as CEO of Oatmeal Health, I lead a team embedding AI into radiology workflows to turn routine lung CT scans into reimbursable cancer risk assessments. We partner with FQHCs to reach underserved communities, and with health systems and payers to make early detection economically sustainable. Think HeartFlow or Cleerly, but for lungs.
Between companies, I advised at Techstars and Plug and Play, mentoring founders building in digital health. That experience shaped how I think about what separates companies that ship from companies that stall: distribution, reimbursement, and clinical trust, not just technology.
I’m a CancerX alumnus, a 3x healthcare founder, and someone who believes the biggest problems in cancer aren’t scientific. They’re operational.
We’re hiring mission-driven builders at Oatmeal Health. If you want to work on something that matters, reach out.
When I’m not working, I’m traveling, mentoring, and keeping up with one very energetic husky. 🐾
